Sight Words 

In kindergarten we learn sight words or high frequency words.  These are words that students need to be able to read quickly by sight. Sight words area key component in helping students learn to read. Sight words make up more than 50% of everyday reading material!

Decoding Strategies

Here are a few of the tools we use to help your child learn to read by decoding:

 

Eagle Eye

Look at the picture for clues.​

​

​Lips the Fish

Say the first sounds of the new word.

​​

Stretchy Snake​

Stretch the word out slowly.

Put the sounds together.​

​

Chunky Monkey

Look for a chunk that you know (at in cat)

Look for a word part (-ing, -er)
